The Dangers of Deforestation

It’s official. Humans have ruined planet Earth. Each day, 2.47 million trees are cut down. This equals to about 900 million trees being cut down each year. They are torn down for making paper, cereal boxes, magazines, newspapers and other miscellaneous everyday items. This makes the environment degrading and much worse than it ever could be.

Deforestation could lead to many environmental problems around the world. Recently, a major report by National Geographic warned that the world was on track to lose 2/3rd of wild animals by 2020. Wild animals have lived in the trees and the forest areas for years. We have taken their land, their water, their food, and their lives.

Not only animals, but ordinary people rely on the forest. There are an estimated 1.6 billion people who rely on forests for it’s sufficient supplies. Forests have supplied food, water, clothing, traditional medicine and shelter.

Deforestation also drives climate change. Without the trees to keep the soil moist, the land could quickly become a desert. Removing trees also strip forests of their canopy. This leads to extreme temperatures for plants and animals.

Fewer forests means more greenhouse gases. Ultimately, there will be more Carbon in the air instead of oxygen, and soon enough, it will be difficult to survive. It may not be in the community nearby. It’s in the Amazon, the rainforests across the world that are home to many that trees are being torn down rigorously.

Obviously, deforestation causes too many problems for us to handle, but the solution is quite simple. Stop cutting down trees.

Stop tearing down the hard oak, the Maples, the English Walnut, the Weeping Willows, the Nutmegs, the Southern Magnolias and the Myristica fragrans. Stop cutting down these majestic beauties that provide us with shelter and life.

Remember, it’s not only the trees that get hurt.

It’s us.
