With the end of basketball season comes the renewal of the track season. Track and field is different from the other sports with the simple fact that there is a much more diverse range of events to compete in. Basketball is just basketball, volleyball is just volleyball, but out on the track and field, it’s a whole different ballgame. Unlike other sports, track and field opens up new doors by allowing individuals more choices. Not all the events have to do with running–and even within the running category, there are multiple events. “Distance” events focus on runners having extreme endurance whereas “sprint” events center more on speed and agility. All these various events allow for athletes to bring out their hidden strengths, and focus at what they’re the most confident in. When all the athletes are showcasing their individual strengths by participating in their corresponding events, victory can be achieved. And that has exactly been what our track team has been doing.

The Canyon Vista track season officially begun on February 16th. Mustangs had to come out early in the morning, or stay late after school practicing, depending on the event they wished to compete in. Just like the various events, Mustangs had various reasons for joining.

“I joined track because I like winning,” was 8th grader Chris Hutcherson’s straightforward response.

8th grader Andy Tutuc replied with, “I joined track because I thought it would make me stronger and faster.”

We’re excited to see what this track season brings–come support your fellow Mustangs at the upcoming meets!
