Mappen

Mappen

There’s a new craze among teenagers for an app called “Mappen.” So what does it do? Mappen lets people share location with their friends. You can either download it from the app store or download it through an invite from a friend. So how does it work? You would get a text message from Mappen that your friend would like to follow you and invite you personally to the app. Once you download the app, Mappen will go through your contacts and recommend which people you should follow. This will only let you use the app if you share your location with the app, therefore with other people. So I guess a pro this app has is that if you are in an emergency, other people could find you if you had your phone on you. The con is that all your friends who are Mappen users will know exactly where you are every single second of your life. It isn’t safe because a stranger could pose as a friend of your and could know your location.

So it is really a personal choice. If you have the app and would like to get rid of it, the safest thing to do would be to go to settings and deactivate your Mappen account and then delete the app itself. This way is safer because now there is a very small chance that anyone can track your location after you deactivate your account and delete the app. Personally, I don’t like Mappen because I Don’t like that it wants to always know your location even when you are not in the app.
