PTA Meeting Oct. 23

PTA+Meeting+Oct.+23

At our most recent PTA meeting, we discussed our RRISD Accountability System (A-F)

Our speaker Dr. Malarebo started with the question, what is important to them?

Some of our answers were academically speaking STAAR scores along with communication from teachers along with individual feedback. Seeing teachers encourage growth mindset and mentality. Some things we heard from other parents included being a Blue Ribbon school and how well do students succeed at the next level in their academic career.

Framework for the Public School Accountability is developed by State and Federal legislatures. Our overall rating here at CVMS was a 95. We should be proud of this and the

Official A-F ratings are coming this summer.

These ratings are not like a school grade it is a relative importance rating. In elementary and middle these are basically all standardized test scores. Another thing that is important is that standardized test scores often negatively correlated with the percentage of economically disadvantaged students.

The system is a framework of three domains: Student Achievement, School Progress, and Closing the Gaps which is in place so that economically disadvantaged kids do not negatively affect the school’s overall rating.

If you think that this system is to negatively affect with its labels (A-F) then the parents must advocate for the change you wish to see. Educators don’t go and advocate for change because it looks like they just don’t want to be evaluated. If you go to Txschools.org, you can see all of the data about standardized tests
