League Of Legends: Wild Rift Open Beta Review
Riot Games has finally put League on your phone, but is it any good?
League Of Legends launched backed in 2009, and in March of 2021, the mobile version launched in the United States. It has been 12 years since then, but the game remains the same deep down. The main objective? Destroy the enemy nexus, whether that’s through using a creature from the void, a sarcastic demon, or something in between, League has been popular for years. Now, you can play on your mobile devices, but is it worth it?
(Note: This is for the BETA of Wild Rift, meaning they’re still working on stuff, and it’s not a complete game yet.)
What is Wild Rift?
Wild Rift is very similar to its computer counterpart, as it is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), and you take control of a character (called “champions”), which all have different abilities, passives, and they fit into different roles and playstyles. I won’t be going too in deep with what league is since this article isn’t about that, but if you’d like to know more, check out the League of Legends wiki.
Gameplay Updates
Wild Rifts’ games are much shorter than League PC (which will be referred as League from now on), as many elements are sped up. You earn XP faster and the level cap is 15 instead of 18, most objectives spawn faster, and there are less towers to take down to get to the nexus, making the games much faster. On average, my games were about 15-20 minutes, with the longest being a 25 minute game.
Champion Updates
Some champions are tweaked too! For example, Ashe’s ultimate, Enchanted Crystal Arrow, can now be controlled after is shot, while usually you just have to shoot and pray you make the hit. Some champions have new active abilities, like Vayne’s Silver Bolts, which usually just give you more damage in League, but in Wild Rift, it gives you a temporary power up.
Visual Updates
The most impressive of Wild Rift are the visuals. This game is amazing looking, even on mobile. All Champions and skins got a remodel, making old models like Ashe look great. Summoners Rift also looks great. All the skins look great too, giving skins that aren’t well liked a second chance. Gothic Orianna is a great example of that.
Conclusion
Overall, Wild Rift is a great version of League. If you are a bit interested in League, try Wild Rift. It can’t hurt!
