The summer is long, and people can get bored during it with nothing to do.
Camps are one of the many options of things to do during the summer.
“I think getting involved in summer camps is a good idea, I usually go to soccer ones like the UT soccer camp. I like going to them because I can hang out with my friends and do something I like at the same time,” Ella Kobel (7) said.
There are a variety of options for camps, and it depends on what you like to do. Many people love to go to fitness and sports camps over the summer.
“I’m doing the Performance Course camp that they talked about here. The camp is for part of the day, and I like it like that because it does not take up my whole day. This is my first time doing the camp, but I have heard about it from friends, and it is basically an athletics or conditioning camp,” Sania Patel (7) said.
If sports and fitness are not your thing, there are other choices like arts and creativity camps that you can do.
“I think that the STEM girls camp is a really good one for people who are interested in science and creative stuff,” said Roma Anand (7).
There are also different styles of camps that you can explore. There are away camps, where you stay overnight at the place, and there are normal day camps where you come back home after the day is done.
“I prefer sleep away camps because it’s a different environment from home. Since you are away from your familiar surroundings it makes it more fun. I am not going to any camps this summer but I usually go to Camp Champions, and I think it’s really fun,” Layla Call (7) said.
Other things students do are sign up to be counselors at summer camps. Being a counselor can gain responsibility no matter what type of camp you do.
“Our camp is specifically designed for those who have Prader-Willi Syndrome. Most with PWS cannot attend the traditional camp due to food issues and behaviors. We have designed meals and snacks to comply with the specialized needs of those with PWS and still provide a Fun and Exciting camp experience that otherwise might not have been possible. Our volunteers are dedicated to not only making sure our campers have the time of their lives, but also to ensuring their safety with issues specific to Prader-Willi Syndrome,” Ms. Arcaya said.
Camps are something kids look forward to, and it keeps everyone busy, depending on which camp you go to.
“The kids look forward to the camp all year. It’s a weekend full of smiles and hugs,” Ms. Arcaya said.
