For the past ten years, National Cat Day has been celebrated as a day to explode the internet with cats. Every feline deserves a forever home and this day is used to help them find a family where they will be cherished and loved. For all the cat owners out there, mark your calendars for Oct 29th, spoil your kitty, and find your unconditional love for your cat.

National Cat Day was founded in 2005 by animal welfare advocate, Colleen Paige, and is sponsored by BLUE Naturally Fresh Cat Litter and Petco. Last year, the event was trending number one on Twitter and was showing up everywhere on social media. A-list celebrities were also supporting the cause. When Colleen first founded this day, she would’ve never imagined how much National Cat Day would grow. Over one million cats have been adopted and saved in the past ten years. Cat fanatics everywhere are looking forward to the celebration in 2015, which is bound to be just as exciting as last year’s event.

The events for this year’s celebration will include two photo contests. The first contest will be “Search for the Most Lovable Shelter Cat,” an opportunity for shelters and rescues to enter photos of their adoptable cats. The shelter that wins will get 1500 pounds of BLUE Cat Litter. “Most Cuddly Cat” is the second contest in which cat owners everywhere will be able to compete. Just by submitting a picture of your cat being adorable and snuggly, you will get a chance to win a year’s supply of BLUE Cat Litter for your kitty. The new magazine Pet Home will be launched on Oct 29th by National Cat Day founder, Colleen Paige. Pet Home will be a fresh lifestyle magazine that updates on everything pet related. The first Pet Home issue will be devoted to cats in dedication to National Cat Day, including vibrant full color photos of adoptable cats from several different rescues and shelters.

“I have two cats at home and they mean so much to me, they are so sweet and fun to hang out with,” says 8th grader Juliana Webb. “I had never heard of National Cat Day before, but I’m definitely going to be spoiling my kitties with treats and snacks this year.” There are approximately four million cats entering shelters every year, and some are even put down. So on Oct 29th, take a chance to adopt and give a cat a forever home, or give the one you already have some extra loving.
