Welcoming All 6th Graders
With every new year comes welcoming a new group of 6th grade students. But with all these new students come a lot of emotions/ worry/ fear / excitement. Some kids may be nervous to find their classes and others are excited to meet new teachers and friends. I interviewed a few of the 2018-2019 sixth graders about their experience so far in middle school.
Rebecca Clements (6)-
How were you feeling on the first day of school?
I was nervous, but also excited.
Do you feel differently now and why?
Yes. I’m less nervous because I know my schedule. I know my way around the school better.
What do you like about CVMS?
I like that there’s more freedom than in elementary school and there are also a lot of new friends.
Devak Jannu (6)-
How were you feeling on the first day of school?
I was feeling pretty good about myself.
Do you feel different now? Why or why not?
I don’t feel very different now. I really like school.
What do you like about CVMS?
You can make more decisions for yourself.
Bella Keene (6)-
How were you feeling on the first day of school?
I was feeling a little nervous. Things pulled together at the end.
Do you feel different now? Why or why not?
A little bit. I feel more comfortable now.
What do you like about CVMS?
I like the teachers a lot.
As you red, a lot of 6th graders felt nervous on the first day, but they feel better now that they’ve experienced the first sixth weeks.
I know for me, I was that nervous sixth grader last year. A lot of students like the freedom of middle school, others like the teachers, and others like the variety of classes. We all feel differently when starting middle school, it is a big change, and that’s okay. Through it all, we wish the 2018-2019 sixth graders a great first year of middle school!
