Interview With Coach RAM
Coach Ramirez serves a lot on the Canyon Vista campus, from a DJ at the school socials, to the girls’ basketball coach, to the beloved art teacher.
For the season though, here are some questions for him about his time as the basketball head coach.
What are your favorite plays that we run during games?
I like to run a Motion 5 Out. It looks similar to the offense that the San Antonio Spurs run. I’m all about sharing the ball and making the high percentage shot. I do not like for people to take unwarranted 3 pt. shots. It is extremely annoying and boring to watch. That is why I despise Stephen Curry from the Golden State Warriors.
What are the game highlights in your eyes?
I like to see good clean fundamentals. We work on them a lot during practice.
Do you think that our basketball team is great?
I think both our teams are extremely athletic. With that said, we have a lot of work to do. We have yet to play to our fullest potential.
How do you think that the basketball season is going so far?
I think our season is off to a good start but I think we have a couple of games that will be a really good matchup. Our biggest threat is Cedar Valley. We really need to have everybody contribute in order to have a chance to beat them.
Who inspired you to play basketball?
The San Antonio Spurs have been my inspiration since I can remember. They are the true definition of a team and teamwork. There is no 1 man. They share the ball, keep it moving, and always make the extra pass for the high percentage shot.
Why did you want to be a coach for basketball?
I always loved basketball and the scheming behind it. I absolutely love coaching. My responsibility is to take you to the next level. I love seeing girls improve their game and wreck people on the court.
What is the hardest thing about being a coach?
The hardest thing about being a coach is keeping the passion level high. I always try to have everybody pumped up at all times. I keep it moving by having intense drilling and competition.
Aliyah is a 13-year-old and a very outstanding girl and is very creative. She thinks outside the box. She loves sports especially Basketball and Track....
