I’m a huge fan of Apple. As I’ve been to many Apple Campuses, I’ve really grown to love Apple and their amazing products. But Apple just recently announced that their product called Airpower will not be released. In fact, the whole project is canceled.

It didn’t have to become such a huge deal, but the way Apple took away Airpower from the web made a lot of people suspicious. Apple slowly took it away from their website, and then it was completely off. People started to write articles about how Airpower is taken away from the Apple website and how there are no more references to it anymore. Then a few days later, Apple announced that Airpower was officially dead.

Airpower was first announced in 2017 beside the iPhone X. Originally it was said that you could charge your iPhone, Apple watch and Airpods anywhere on the white charging pad. In 2017, they said that they would release it in 2018. The whole year passed and we’re into 2019. This started making people question about Airpower. Most people thought it would be released beside another Apple product later in the year. When Apple started shipping out Airpods 2, on the back of the wireless charge case, it shows a diagram of how you could charge the case on the Airpower mat. Even if you buy Airpods 2 to this day, the diagram of the Airpower charging mat is shown on the back.

Why was it canceled? Apparently, this product is too hard to engineer and manufacture. This product isn’t a phone, where it is such an important product, but it became such an important product as people were getting hyped to buy this.

After a few days, Apple responded to everyone’s question. What happened to Airpower? Here is the official statement of Apple announcing Airpower being canceled. “After much effort, we’ve concluded AirPower will not achieve our high standards and we have canceled the project. We apologize to those customers who were looking forward to this launch. We continue to believe that the future is wireless and are committed to push the wireless experience forward.”

Apple being one of the biggest company in the world, you’d expect them to be able to make a charging mat. But when you have three different charging stations on one mat, heat builds up and it becomes a problem. Overall, this isn’t such a huge deal. If it was an iPhone or the MacBook Pro, that’s a different story. Hopefully, they don’t cancel a MacBook Pro. At least they told everyone that Apple wouldn’t be able to make this product before they started selling. This way, it is a lot safer for people who bought it and end up having something go wrong and causing serious damage.

There are so many alternatives. There are charging mats that charge all three Apple products that are selling currently which are definitely much cheaper compared to Airpower if it were to sell. Having able to charge up to three different products anywhere on the mat instead having to find the exact sweet spot on other charging mats is a lifesaver. If it wasn’t set up on the mat properly, then it wouldn’t charge. Apple promised a lot from this product, but it didn’t work out in the end because of all the problems that popped up with this product.
