Canyon Echoes reporter: Can you introduce yourself ?

Mrs Markins: My name is Karen Markins and I am the ESL (English Second Language) teacher at Canyon Vista Middle School.

Canyon Echoes reporter: When did you arrive at Canyon Vista?

Mrs Markins: I have been here for 8 years now.

Canyon Echoes reporter: Can you tell us what is the ESL class ?

Mrs Markins: The ESL class is a class for kids that are new to the country and need to learn English.

Canyon Echoes reporter: Why did you want to become an ESL teacher ?

Mrs Markins: I enjoy smaller classes. It is a starting point for these kids and they have to get used to American culture and I love to teach them all of that.

Canyon Echoes reporter: Is there anything in particular that you would like to do with the ESL classes ?

Mrs Markins: I like to work on projects and make them act in plays. Also I like to read traditional stories that they’ve never heard.

Canyon Echoes reporter: Have you ever taught anything else ?

Mrs Markins: I have taught 5th grade self contained, 6th grade self contained, 6th grade math, 6th grade health class, self contained TAG, pre K and special aid.

Canyon Echoes reporter: If you could change something about the ESL program what would you change?

Mrs Markins: I would like to be able to have a real budget so we could do field trip.
