Pride “Break the Silence” Festival Brings Together Students
Canyon Vista hosted the third annual district-wide ‘Break the Silence’ Pride festival on April 15, 2023, one day after the Day of Silence from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., organized by the school’s Gender-Sexuality Alliance (GSA).
The Pride festival featured many different organizations with booths, including Hope Presbyterian Church and Anti-Racists Together (ACT), as well as booths such as face-painting by Westwood High School’s drama club, disk drop, decorating, and queer stickers.
Notable highlights from the Pride festival included flying a pride kite and a queer teacher Q&A panel. The festival culminated in a Pride parade around the track at 12:30 p.m., led by past GSA member Elliott Richards, who is currently attending Westwood High School.
GSA meets every Friday from 7:50-8:10 a.m. in Room 256.
