A few days before the Valentines Day social event, scheduled for 6th and 7th grade, an anonymous parent donated a very large quantity of money, an estimated 2500 dollars, to the social program. This funded access wristbands for every child who wished to attend the event.
To understand the gravity of this donation, one first needs to understand the basics of a social and how it operates. Ms.Bruce, who was one of the organizers of the social, speaks on how the donation affected the normal activities planned.
“We start by requesting donations from parents. If parents are able to donate, it does not cost us to purchase items and we are able to make more money. After donations, we purchase whatever else we need. We then send out a request for volunteers, both through parents, teachers, and students.”
Before the social was made free for all students, very few intended on going. According to multiple anonymous sources, the addition of free wristbands changed the minds of many 6th and seventh graders alike.
“My friend didn’t want to go because it was five dollars, but when it was free she changed her mind.” Varshini Maheshprabu (7) confirms.
The social ran quite smoothly otherwise, the fun activities and delicious food quickly being put to use by the excited students who attended.
