Should GMO Be Banned ?
You have probably heard about GMO before. You also probably heard some people say that they aren’t good for your health. Well after reading this you can make your own mind about if GMOs should be banned.
What are GMOs ?
Gmo stands for ( Genetically Modified Organism ). GMO is an organism that has being genetically changed to have certain traits. Its DNA contains one or more genes not normally found there.
GMO around the world
Right now in the world 12% of the food we make have GMOs. America is one of the country to use the most GMO and 80% of the food that has GMO and is not labeled anywhere on the package. France for example has banned GMO since 2008. Also they stopped growing the only GMO consumed in France the corn MON810.
Are GMO safe ?
Scientist say that no difference has been detected between food with and without GMOs.
“Food with GMOs have the same risks as normal food” said the organisation of international health. No danger has been proven until now but it doesn’t mean there aren’t any.
How do I know if vegetables or fruits are GMO or not ?
That is very simple on fruits and vegetables there is a small sticker with a number in function of the number you know if the fruit or vegetable is genetically modified, grown with pesticides or organic. If there are only four numbers on the sticker, this means that the produce was grown conventionally or “traditionally” with the use of pesticides. An example is that all bananas are labeled with the code of 4011. If there are five numbers on the sticker code, and the number starts with “8”, this tells you that the item is a genetically modified fruit or vegetable.A genetically engineered (GE or GMO) banana would be: 84011. If there are five numbers on the sticker code, and the number starts with “9”, this tells you that the produce was grown organically and is not genetically modified. An organic banana would be: 94011.
So have decided if you think GMO are good or bad and if yes or no you will be more careful about what you eat. Should GMO be banned? Let me know in the comments!
