The tariffs implemented by President Trump have no doubt gotten the attention of every American, but have they affected their lives yet?
“Tariffs are increasing the prices of electronics, so it’s harder for me to make robots,” Arnav Saraf (8) said.
Clearly it’s affected niche hobbies, but what about groceries, or restaurants?
“The tariffs have not really affected MY life, yet, but it’s just in the little things. For example when I go to a Chinese restaurant, I notice the prices of the food are a couple dollars more expensive per dish,” Mrs. Friesenhahn said. “The reason why is because they’re importing specific foods like specific mushrooms from Asia so you have to pay more.”
Many Americans are nervous right now as to whether or not buying things now is better than waiting it out, but only time will tell.
“[The tariffs are] making me think I need to hurry to buy something right now… …before the tariffs come back into effect,” Mrs. Friesenhahn said. “I need to get a car, and I was gonna get it in about 2 years, but now I’m thinking ‘No I need to get the car right now’, so I don’t need to pay thousands of dollars more.”
The tariffs are affecting students and teachers in many different ways. While they might not seem very extreme in some cases, increased prices on imported foods and electronics, to even changing people’s future life plans is a very big impact on the population. Everyone is affected, and hopefully someone will find some way to work it out.
