In many regions of Texas right now, there is a shortage of water that is very worrying because these regions contain many ranches and farms. However, lawmakers are debating how to solve this problem.
“(The law that might fix it will be about) not wasting water, not using more than you need,” Alia Ozrahan (6) said.
These regions, which span most of Texas, are facing drought because they aren’t getting enough rainfall because of climate change.
“The farmers need water, so they must need something in place (to protect and conserve water),” Ms. Schwab said.
The Texas water crisis spans a large area, and the Texas legislature from both parties knows this is a problem they need to fix.

“We have to take care of Mother Earth. We have to conserve this Earth,” Ms. Sen said.
Some of the biggest problems are in the Rio Grande Valley (RGV), whose economy is mostly based on agriculture. Without proper irrigation, this economy will wither.
“(The most worrying region?) Probably in the deserts around Big Bend, I guess that would be West Texas,” Sen said.
This shortage of water has been around most of Texas for a long, long time. This is, however, an unnatural drought for Texas.
“It (the water crisis) has ups and downs, but if it ended it would be short until the next water crisis,” Schwab said.
