21 Qualities of a Good Leader

When you ask people what a leader is, they could give you the definition that everyone knows: the person who leads or commands a group, organization, or country. However, there are many qualities to being a good leader, and it’s not always easy to achieve all of them. The book, The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership is written by a professional speaker, John Maxwell and this is what he has to say on how to be a good and trustworthy leader.

Character: The mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual.

Charisma: Compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others.

Communication: The imparting or exchanging of information or news.

Commitment: The state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc.

Competence: The ability to do something successfully or efficiently.

Courage: The ability to do something that frightens others.

Discernment: The ability to judge well.

Focus: The center of interest or activity.

Generosity: The quality of being kind and generous.

Initiative: The ability to assess and initiate things independently.

Listening: Gives one attention to a sound.

Passion: Strong and barely controllable emotion.

Positive Attitude: The belief that one can increase achievement through optimistic thought processes.

Problem Solving: The process of finding solutions to difficult or complex issues.

Relationships: The way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.

Security: The state of being free from danger or threat.

Self-Discipline: The ability to control one’s feelings and overcome one’s weaknesses; the ability to pursue what one thinks is right despite temptations to abandon it

Servanthood: The condition of being a servant.

Teachability: Suitability for use in teaching.

Vision: The faculty or state of being able to see.

Responsibility: The state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or having control over someone.

Good leaders must be good role models, well-informed in their fields, and worthy of honor. Following these qualities could make you a better leader and altogether, a more knowledgeable and courteous person.
