Dance Spring Show
A song is a simple thing, but full of feelings the artist wants to express. Yet, it’s not entirely representative without a dance that moves to the beat along with it. And the dance students of Canyon Vista Middle School were at the Dance Spring Show to perform just that.
Before the Dance Spring Show officially began on May 1st, Coach Nielsen, the Master of Ceremonies, gave a few words. She noted that not only were the students performing, but that they had choreographed their own moves. Then, all of the dance students opened up the dancecapade, dancing along to the upbeat song, “Happy,” by Pharrell Williams.
There were many large group performances. Students from 2nd period dance class performed to “Anything Could Happen” by Ellie Goulding, “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri, and “Still Into You” by Paramore, and students from 6th period danced to “Counting Stars” by OneRepublic. These were all modern dances.
Along with small group performances, a few brave students performed solo. 7th grader Divya S. danced to “Jathiswaram,” 7th grader Paige W. danced to “Ready or Not” by Bridgit Mendler, and 7th grader Deirdra M. danced to “Freakum Dress” by Beyoncé. There was also a short segment to honor the 8th graders who were graduating this year. The show ended with all of the performers dancing to the 2011 version of “Footloose” by Blake Shelton.
The show was very nerve-racking for the performers but became pleasing to them and the audience in the end. “I was nervous at first,” said 8th grade dancer Heyji R. “But it turned out to be successful.” The dances radiated the emotions expressed through the songs, enhancing the performance. Overall it was a great show and had the audience on their feet.
