6th Graders’ Thoughts on Middle School

To elementary school kids, middle school is a whole new adventure and experience. After all, it’s a bigger school with more friends and fun, different adventures and electives, and more fine arts and sports. There are so many things to do in middle school. The first few days will be lost in exploration, as the transition from elementary school takes place.

Many current 6th graders felt that transitioning into middle school was a huge step and gave them more freedom, as well as adventures. The first and most important task at hand for the 6th graders is to adjust to the new environment. Most of the kids find the adjustment to middle school easy and also enjoy the transition. “It is a great place, and we have more freedom and many choices,” says 6th grader Brianna Brozo.

Middle school is a fun 3 years where many students make new friends. This is the main activity of the majority of the elementary kids when they land into the middle school. New friendships come into place, sleepovers and parties and secret codes are exchanged and life in middle school takes a turn for the better, as everyone has new friends.

Middle school offers electives and assists in finding students’ passions early on. “The electives are great. I always look forward to band every day. It is so fun,” says 6th grader Alex Brooussard excitedly. Middle school helps people learn about things they love, with extra clubs and a lot of electives ranging from athletics to theatre and even to new languages such as Spanish and French. 6th grade art student Mariana Oquendo says she “loves art and having fun with her friends.’’

Some 6th graders say that middle school can be challenging with all the homework . “We have a lot of homework and have to turn it in the next day. It is hard to juggle school life,” 6th grader Kendall George admits. Though there is a lot of homework, middle school is a place where students really get to know themselves. Students learn new things and slowly get acquainted with high school through middle school.

Middle school helps in building character. It is an awesome place where students explore new things and build their identities. Sixth grade is a huge step for the elementary kids when coming into middle school. Although it means more homework, it can be an awesome adventure where fifth graders adjust from elementary to middle school, find their identify, their passion and and have fun.
