The STAAR test, State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness, is the four-hour long test taken close to the end of the year. This tedious exam is taken from third grade until high school.

STAAR tests are aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) learning standards. Beginning in spring 2012, the STAAR replaced the TEKS test. The STAAR is more rigorous than past assessments because it measures whether a student is learning at a college-ready level.

There are three levels of how the test is graded: not meeting the standard, meeting the standard, and a commended performance. Failing on any STAAR test may disallow a student to graduate to the next grade so do well.

There are many ways to make sure you are STAAR ready. Take time to study and go over materials including notes and homework. Get a good night’s sleep for your body to be ready for sitting in the testing room for hours. Lastly, be sure go eat a good, fulfilling breakfast to be prepared to do well on the test.
