Karumanchi Wins Boys’ Basketball Game At Last Second

The 7th-grade boys’ basketball B-team from Canyon Vista faced off against the Walsh Wildcats on Dec. 8, 2022. Canyon Vista was down by two points until the last 3 seconds where they won with a 3-pointer.

The game for the Canyon Vista B-team was tight; in the last minute of the game, Canyon Vista was ahead at 28-27, until Walsh scored a 2-pointer, pushing them 1 point ahead of Canyon Vista. However, in a thrilling finish, in the last 5 seconds of the game, No. 12, Aarav Karumanchi from Canyon Vista scored an incredible 3-pointer, winning the game at the last second with a score of 31-29.

“I emphasized the fact that we have got to play aggressive defense,” Coach Azios (7th-grade B-team) said. “We got down by 8 or 10 points around halftime, and then they [B-team] played great defense to come back… and then at the end, we lost the lead because we turned it over. And then with 10 seconds [left] in the game, we made some great passes, our player Karumanchi, he came down with no time left and shot a 3-point shot – we were down by one [point] – and made it to win the game.”

“I guess I was, like, kinda speechless and everybody was jumping up and down.” Aarav Karumanchi (8) said. “I practice a lot and just… step up to that moment.”

At the time of publication, the next game is scheduled for Dec. 14, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. at Hopewell Middle School.
