Ever since humans had lived on this planet we have relied only on two things–food and water. We need these things for our survival, because these things have the nutrition we need. Right? Well, it is our power source, but water, the most vital thing for mankind, has no nutritional value at all. Regular tap water has no nutritional value and it can only contain it [nutrition] when it has been added by bottling companies. So why is it the most important resource on the planet? Water is a colorless, tasteless fluid that helps our body function. It doesn’t provide nutrition but it does keep our body clean and free of acne and skin blemishes. Water flushes out harmful toxins from our system, keeping our insides clean. Water keeps everything about our body clean. But what else does water do?

Water is the main component of our blood and carries essential nutrients and oxygen to and from cells. If water didn’t exist, the body wouldn’t be able to source energy to its functions. Our body would stop working. So even if water doesn’t give us nutrition, it certainly delivers those nutrients to places we need them.

Drinking a lot of water can help you keep hydrated and be safe.  “I drink a lot of water,” says Nikitha Addanki, 7th grade. She knows it keeps her hydrated and isn’t afraid to drink water any chance she gets. So water keeps you hydrated and protected. How does it protect you? Well, water cushions joints and prevents tissues and organs–such as your brain–from getting damaged or shocked. So when you fall of your bike or trip over a rock, remember that water is keeping you safe.

Another way it helps you stay safe is that water keeps viruses on the minimum. The more water you drink, the less chance you have of getting sick. Research shows that drinking water when you’re sick can help your body get rid of bacteria faster. The water flushes out the bacteria, and along with the help from your cells and their antibodies, it defeats the virus.

So even if water doesn’t exactly provide the nutrition you need, it definitely helps you out. Keeping hydrated means staying safe and healthy–and preventing acne. Water has more power than you think. Keep hydrated!
