2018 is the year of the battle royale game, as two FPS games have blown up into massive popularity since the turn of the calendar. But what are these games and why are they turning heads-and gaining millions of downloads along the way?

First, let’s take a look at Fortnite. Developed by Epic Games, the animation-heavy game is a feature on every XBOX and Playstation in the world. There is a heavy following for the game on social media, as it has become a popular game for twitch streamers and YouTubers. Some Fortnite players, such as streamer and YouTuber Ninja, have gained millions of subscribers and hundreds of millions of views while playing the game.

Player Unknown Battlegrounds, also known as PUBG, has been out since March of last year but has only blown up in popularity in the past six months. A more realistic-looking game than Fortnite, it does not have the same kind of recognition as the former. However, it is much more similar to the Call of Duties and Battlefields of the world, but with a PvP aspect as well.
