Top Five Apple Failures

Apple has made many amazing products, but even the largest tech companies have made some mistakes. Please note that these failures are are on a commercial scale, so even if an item was horrible aesthetic, it could still be considered not-a-flop if the tech giant was able to break even (unless written otherwise). That being said, here are some of the worst products that Apple has ever made.

1) The Apple Newton (All Models)

Apple’s Newton was a rather large PDA that ran Newton OS. Apple put $100 million dollars into developing this tablet of sorts, and sold 50,000 devices within 3 months of it’s release. These are tiny in number compared to the millions of iPhone 6s sold in the first 3 months after their launch. However, some of the employees who worked on the Newton founded the company Pixo, which made the operating system for the ludicrously popular iPod.

2) Macintosh Portable

The Macintosh portable was Apple’s first laptop, if you could call it one. It was all but portable, weighing a whopping sixteen pounds and had a nine inch black and white screen. But 9,000 dollars is quite a bit to spend on a computer. And if you throw in the fact that it has a lead acid battery, which means that once it is fully discharged the battery can not be charged ever again, it seems like the worst device that Apple had to offer. They sold a very little amount (understandably)

3) Apple Pippin

Ever heard of the Apple Pippin? No? Well, you may be surprised. It was a Macintosh designed specifically to game. If you ask any serious PC gamer about gaming on a Mac they will ridicule you and probably laugh until it becomes awkward. For the Pippin, Apple and Namco collaborated to make this weird six hundred dollar computer. For various reasons production of this quirky device seized.

4) Twentieth Anniversary Macintosh

Some of you may have heard of this one. The Twentieth Anniversary mac is a device that resembles today’s Mac except for one minor (major) difference: the disc slot is on the front. The reason I am calling this a failure is because it was intended to be an all-in-one computer for the masses. After looking into it, though, you will see that it was the exact opposite of what it was intended to be as it costed an insane $7,500.

5) The Original Apple Nike FuelBlend

The FuelBand sold very, very badly. 80 percent of the people who worked on this fitness tracker were laid off. It was very quickly replaced by the Nike Apple Watch, which isn’t doing that well either.
