Insomnia

Insomnia is where you have difficulty falling asleep and/or staying asleep which can result in daytime tiredness. It is affected mostly by adults but can happen in teens. Insomnia is something I have to cope with and it can be quite exhausting, but, you learn to get over the initial sleepiness and go on with your busy day.
Insomnia can be caused by anxiety, depression, and stress. But, by not being able to get a solid or even a little bit of sleep can make these symptoms worse. Also, not being able to rest can increase your mood swings, irritability level, and any regular day emotions.

Some things not to do that will make your Insomnia worse is
– Ingesting Caffeine in the afternoon
– Eating sugar before bed
– Eating a heavy meal before bed
– Being on your device(TV, Phone, Laptop, Tablet, Etc.) right before bed
– Napping during the day(It can mess up your sleep schedule)

Some things that can help your Insomnia is
– Sticking to a regular sleep schedule
– Exercising at least 30 minutes a day
– Getting plenty of sunshine during the day
– Creating a laid back bedtime routine
– Taking a hot bath or shower before bed
– Meditating(Breathing and muscle relaxation drills)
– Making sure your bedroom is relaxing enough to fall asleep in
– Going to bed when tired instead of tossing and turning
– Face your alarm away so you cannot see the time
– Putting your devices on Do Not Disturb
– Keeping a journal to let all your thoughts flow and it doesn’t stay in your – mind
– Doing something tiring like reading, or writing
– Dim your lights in your bedroom and on your devices

Insomnia is something that can mess with your mental health as much as your physical health. By getting sleepless nights you start to believe that your body just cannot relax and cannot fall asleep. But, that is not true. You shouldn’t label yourself as a “bad” sleeper, nor should you lie to yourself and think everything is normal. You should recognize the issue and try to fix it. Google resources, try acupuncture. There are so many things you can do to help yourself and your sleep.

There is so much information on Insomnia and you can learn so much. This is one of my favorite websites that was loaded with great research.
