Milk : Good or Bad?
The Controversy
Ever since childhood, we have been blasted with advertisements “claiming ” that dairy is good for you, and makes your bones ” big and strong”.
Health issues
Contrary to popular belief, milk can cause bone fractures in elderly adults. Osteoporosis ( porous bones ) are highest found in people who consume more dairy, animal protein, and calcium. Excess calcium from milk and other foods may increase the risk of prostate cancer. Milk sugars may be linked to a slightly higher risk of ovarian cancer. A study found that acne occurred more often in teenagers that drank higher amounts of low-fat or skim milk. Instead of promoting bone health, animal protein in dairy products can have a calcium-leaching effect. Another study conducted on 7,500 men showed that those who drank more than two glasses of milk a day were twice as likely to develop Parkinson’s disease as those who didn’t.
How do Cows Feel?
Whenever you are drinking a cold fresh glass of cow juice. do you ever wonder how milk is produced? Cows don’t just produce milk they only “lactate” or produce milk when they are pregnant. So to satisfy our want for cheese. Cows have to be pregnant for the majority of their life. The dairy industry artificially impregnates cows over and over again until milk production slows down. Then it is killed and sold for beef. If cows are pregnant their whole life what happens to the babies? After that baby is born it is immediately taken from its mom. If the baby is a girl it grows up to produce milk. If the baby is a boy then it’s throat is slit and it is sold for veal.
Milk is Gross
Because cows produce so much milk they can get udder infections. These infections can cause somatic cells to appear in milk. What are somatic cells you may ask? Somatic cells are the same thing that is found in a pimple. You could call it pus. The average somatic cell count in U.S. milk per spoonful is 1,120,000. The legal amount of pus allowed in milk is 400,000 somatic cells per milliliter of milk.

Soy milk, Almond Milk, Coconut Milk, and Oat Milk are just a few of these alternatives. To harvest these types of milk we don’t have to terrorize cows into giving us their milk.
