School Phone Collection Punishment Heightened

As of April 1st, 2018, the fee for having your phone being taken up to the office by a teacher or other school employee has now been raised to $100. After conversations with the superintendent and other teachers, Mrs. Hagerty has decided to make it more expensive if you get caught with your phone in class.

“Whenever I walk in to observe a class, there are always kids staring down at their phones. Instead of paying attention to the lesson, they’re playing games and texting their friends. There needs to be a better system for punishing these kids that are ruining their time in school by playing instead of learning. It’s a huge problem in our school and it needs to end,” Principal Nicole Hagerty said.

The choice to raise the fee to $100 is not the only thing that will be added to the punishment for phone use in school. There will also be a non-violent referral and a one-day lunch detention in the office during your lunch period. The idea to have additional punishment was suggested by Mrs. Gill.

“Every day, I see my students messing around on their phones. They’re not paying attention to me. They’re ignoring their teacher and doing whatever they want instead. It’s a disgrace to our school. I’m so tired of my students messing around in my class. And then, when they fail a test or a quiz, they get mad and say that ‘We didn’t learn that yet.’ I hope that this fixes the disease that is phones in class,” US History teacher Melissa Gill said.
