10 DIY Gifts for Christmas
Christmas. The time of year to give gifts to friends and family. If you are running out of time, and need a quick gift to make, these ten gifts are easy and won’t take long to make. Your friends and family will absolutely love them.
1) Photo Holders
Items needed: Rocks, Headpins, Clothespins, Spray Paint (Optional), Glue gun
These photo holders are sleek and nice to give as room decor, not only during Christmas time, but anytime of the year. Before starting, you can chose to spray paint the rocks a color of your choice to make the holders look more professional. First, stack three of the rocks and glue them together. This will take a little bit of patience, as sometimes the rocks just don’t want to stick to each other. Nevertheless, it is possible. After this, hot glue one headpin to the back of one clothespin. Make sure that the ‘clipping’ side is not glued to the headpin because that side will be the photo holding part. Then, simply hot glue the head pin side onto the three already hot glued rocks. Put a picture in the clothespin and you are done.
2) Candy Sleigh
Items needed: Candy Cane, King Sized Candy Bar, Hershey’s gold nuggets, and super glue
This is a fairly simple gift to make. First take two candy canes and super glue them with a reasonable length apart. On top should be a king sized candy bar of your choice. Then, on top of the king sized candy bar, stack a few Hershey’s gold nuggets in a pyramid shape. Finally, tie a ribbon on it.
3) In Case of Emergency, Break Glass (Candy Frame)
Items needed: Stickers (enough to spell out ‘in case of emergency, break glass), big photo frame, candy or chocolate
First, take off the back of the frame, but leave the glass part. Fill in the frame with candy. Then, put the back of the frame back and secure it with some tape. To decorate, use stickers to write ‘in case of emergency, break glass.’ Outline the letters to make them pop out a bit more with Sharpies.
4) Chalkboard Sign on wood
Items needed: Wood slice, chalkboard paint, White chalkboard marker
First, paint the entire wood slice black with the chalkboard paint. You can leave a little bit off the edges to make it look nice. Wood slices are sold at Michaels for two dollars. Then, take the white chalkboard marker and decorate as you would like.
5) Secret money gift
Items needed: Jar of some sort, Candy, Some money, paint, ribbon(optional)
First take an empty toilet paper roll and paint it a color of your choice. This just makes the gift look more embellished. Then, stuff money into the roll, but not too deep so that they can’t see it. Put the roll in the jar and fill it with candy all around it. M&M’s or Skittles work great for this. Put the cap on and tie on a ribbon if you would like. Decorate as you would like.
6) Hot Chocolate To Go
Items needed: A mason jar, marshmallows, hot chocolate mix, Red and Green sprinkles(optional), Ribbon(optional)
First to start off, add some of the hot chocolate mix into the mason jar. Then add some marshmallows, and more mix on top of that. If you do have red and green sprinkles, put them in as well, layering with the marshmallows and the mix. Finally, put the cap on and a ribbon would make it look really nice as well.
7) Water Candle
Items needed: Glass cup or jar of some sort, Water, Lamp oil or cooking oil, Candle wick, Scissor, Tape, Transparent Sheet, Compass, and food coloring/rocks/marbles
First, take the compass and draw a circle on the transparent sheet. Make a hole in the centre. Cut the circle out. Thread the wick into the small hole you made earlier in the centre. Secure it with tape. Add in the jar some water. Along with this you can put in some rocks or marbles. Add lamp oil or cooking oil onto the top. Add the wick into the jar. Fire up the candle and enjoy the lighting of the no wax water candle. This is a great gift for your mom or grandmother.
8) Cookie Truffles
Items needed: Chocolate chip cookies, cream cheese, and chocolate
These might take some time to make, but it’s completely worth it at the end. First, crush the cookies with whatever you have at home, (preferably a blender). Place this in a bowl or a plate. Next take 4 tablespoons of cream cheese into a different container. Microwave the cream cheese for a few seconds until it is smooth. Pour the cream cheese into the crushed chocolate chip cookies. Mix everything until you get a thick substance. Roll the cookie mixture into little balls. Keep the balls in the freezer for twenty minutes. Fill a pot with hot water and put a glass inside. Melt your chocolate. Cover the cookie balls with the melted chocolate with the help of two spoons. Add some sprinkles if you like, before the chocolate hardens. Then keep them in the fridge until they harden. If you would like, you can make a bag with some cellophane. Fill the bag with the truffles and it becomes a delicious and lovely present to give, made by you.
9) Christmas pillow
Items needed: A plain red or green pillow, a white ribbon, and a sprig of greenery or festive ornament
First, take the red or green plain pillow and tie a white ribbon on, as you would for a present. Then add a sprig of greenery or a festive ornament to the ribbon. This is by far the easiest homemade gift you could make out of this list.
10) Paint dipped Kitchen Utensils
Items needed: Wooden kitchen utensils, paint, and foil
Before you do anything with the paint, take a piece of tape and put it on the utensil two inches above the spoon section. Then, take the acrylic paint and pour it into a bucket or bowl of some sort. Simply, start painting. You can paint this multi colored with different shades of one color, or just one color. You can also do the Christmas colors, as this is a Christmas gift. After painting, dry it overnight. The next day, add the gloss. To avoid getting the gloss on the part that touches the food, wrap some foil around that. Let them dry and once they are complete, wrap them up. This is a great gift to give to your mother on Christmas or even later on for Mother’s Day.
