Why You Should Stay Away from Soda

What I can say about soda is it’s a silent killer, it’s a disaster on your doorstep. Here are some things that will hopefully curve your soda addiction:

Your teeth will never forgive you because as you (hopefully) know soda is not good for your teeth. Soda contains acids like phosphoric and carbonic acid, which, can create a highly acidic environment in your mouth. This makes the teeth more likely to decay. While the acids in soda can cause damage, it is the combination with sugar that makes soda particularly harmful for your dental health.

Also, that Diet Coke in your hand that you think is going to help you with weight loss or make you healthier, well… Throw it away and get a salad because diet soda makes you gain weight. Diet soda has zero calories. So it seems logical that replacing regular soda which should help you lose weight, or at least stay the same weight. But no, several studies have proved conclusively that drinking diet soda is associated with weight gain.

So if you ignored the first two warnings then this one (hopefully) will curve your soda addiction. If you drink one soda a year, then, in the long run, you most likely won’t see any massive damage. But if you drink one or more soda per day, then you are at risk of a bunch of problems. One of the many problems is that your kidneys will decline in function. Also, high levels of sugar in soda places a lot of stress on your pancreas, potentially leaving it unable to keep up with the body’s need for insulin. Drinking one or two sugary drinks per day increases your risk for Type 2 diabetes by 25 percent. Soda cans are coated with the endocrine disruptor bisphenol A (BPA), which has been linked to everything from heart disease to obesity to reproductive problems.

Also, soda dehydrates you. Soda is high in calories. A 20 oz soda has 240 calories. In comparison, strawberries are packed with vitamins and antioxidants, and only have 46 calories in a cup. That means you could have five cups of strawberries and still eat fewer calories than a soda.

So if that didn’t curve your soda addiction then I don’t know what will.
