Who You Have To Thank For Christmas Break
So who do you have to thank that you get school off during Christmas Break? To start Christmas itself was started as a pagan holiday. Then Christians started celebrating it as a day to remember the birth of Jesus. In England, a common celebration was that a beggar would go to any house and demand their best food and drink. The house (usually a rich one) was by law required to do so. This was so that the rich could pay their real or imagined debt to society. Then there was this time in 1645 when Oliver Cromwell and his extremist Puritans outlawed Christmas. Then they legalized it again. Then the English brought it to the colonies, but the revolutionary patriots in America didn’t like it. Not until 1870 did Christmas become a Federal Holiday. And that’s who you have to thank for why Christmas and Christmas Break are a thing in America. Ulysses S. Grant, who was also a drunkard and Civil War General.
However, if you are a College student reading (first of all why are you here) this then you have to thank Jimmy Carter for being president. So while Jimmy Carter was President, there was an economic depression, and colleges were sorta poor. They wanted to reduce the number of school days and thus reduce expenses in order to stay alive. It worked and another benefit was that some people would enroll in the middle of this Winter Break, thus sometimes making money for the university. Also a final note, the only reason everyone I interviewed was a 6th-grade male was that nobody else was in the hallways. (Basically, this article is not discriminant) Finally, Merry Christmas everyone!
