Flashback to ’90s Favorites

This year, the Choir Spring Show is a 90s theme. The songs that will be included have not yet been chosen, but here is a list of iconic songs from the ’90s to remind you of the things that decade had to offer.

I Want it That Way (Backstreet Boys)

This song was the first single off the album Millennium, which was the fastest selling album ever until No Strings Attached by ‘N Sync. It also reached #6 in the US, and although there isn’t much of a tangible story to it, the catchy melodies made this song truly iconic.

Baby One More Time (Britney Spears)

Britney Spears was 16 years old in 1999, when this song was released. It was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal in 2000, but lost to Sarah McLachlan’s ‘I Will Remember You’. This song reached #1 in the US, along with the album, which debuted at the top spot.

Say My Name (Destiny’s Child)

This song won Destiny’s Child prominent awards, including the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or a Group, and the MTV Music Video Award for Best R&B Video. The monochromatic scenes are very eye-catching, you have to admit.

Wannabe (Spice Girls)

This was the very first single that the Spice Girls released. It was immediately popular around the world, and to this day remains the best selling single by an all girl group worldwide. It stayed at #1 in the UK for seven weeks and won the Brit Award for Best Song in 1997.

Time of Your Life (Green Day)

This song (also known as Good Riddance) is played at countless graduations and other farewell occasions. It was Green Day’s first real ballad, and, despite it being different from their usual material, the song was very popular. It won the award for Best Alternative Video at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1998.

The Choir Spring Show will perform on Saturday, May 11 at noon, 3:30 pm, and 7:00 pm, so be sure to mark your calendars!
