The month of April consists of a couple of things. Rain and holidays. Whether its, April fools day, Passover or National Peanut Butter and Jelly day, April is filled with fun events. In this article, we will learn specifically about the religious holidays that are celebrated in April.

Ram Navami

Ram Navami takes place on April 14 and is celebrated by the Hindu religion. Ram Navami is a festival honoring the birth of Maryada Purushottam Ram, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. There are temples decorated with flowers and lights, and some people fast.

Easter and Good Friday

Easter takes place on Sunday, April 21 and is acknowledged by the Christian religion. Easter takes place after Good Friday when Jesus was crucified. On this day some fast, others have a Passover seder to remember the Lord’s last supper. Easter Sunday celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. On this holiday most people go to church for a service and celebrate this joyous occasion with the Easter bunny. Some families have Easter egg hunts, or just give little gifts such as candy and stuffed animals.

Passover

Passover takes place on Friday, April 19 to Saturday, April 27. This holiday is celebrated by the Jewish religion. The origin of these holy days is relating to when the Israelites finally escaped slavery in Egypt and gained freedom from the cruel Pharaoh. The way that Jewish people remember this story of Exodus is by serving a seder. This can be on any day of the Passover week. Some things that are done in the seder is singing prayers, reciting the story from the text, eating, and drinking. The drinks that are served at the Passover seder is wine and grape juice. The food that is served on the seder plate looks like picture 3 in the gallery. There is an egg, horseradish, bitter herbs, greens, charoset, and shank bone. During the ceremony, you are asked to eat and take a sip of your beverage at certain times.

There are many different kinds of holidays in the month of April, fewer religious ones, however. So to look deep and learn about what makes this month so special to others was very interesting. I hope you all learned something as well.
