Hello there, and welcome to This Week in Pop Culture, where you can catch a glimpse of what’s going on in TV, movies, and music through the lens of a 7th grade student. (That’s me!)

Keshav did an excellent write up about IT, but today I’m back, baby, and this week I’ll be taking a look at… Family Matters.

Family Matters was a 1990s sitcom that was about a relatable and interesting black family that featured real world racial problems in realistic situations. And then after a few years of boring old thoughtful television, the writers introduced this horrible scar of humanity:

This was Urkel. The most annoying character in TV. He started off as a one time character before morphing into the main character. Gone were sensitive plots about race and in came plots about Urkel going to space. It was unpleasant. So what does this have to do with the news? Well, the house that the show was set in is being torn down, to the dismay of no one at all. The only reason I care about this and spent any time writing this is becaus I like to imagine the house exploding with Urkel, Scrappy Doo (another added character that is intensely annoying) and Cousin Oliver from the Brady Bunch trapped inside. The anguished scream would be like music to my ears.

So, the house is torn down forever and now I have my excuse for writing a rage article about Urkel. Yay!
