Haiku Contest: Firsts
As we shared earlier this week, in the fall of 2013, we experienced a lot of “firsts.” We debuted with our first post, Mrs. Hagerty was our first Mustang Profile, we hosted our first photobooth, we even had our first contest.
It being the first month of 2014, we think it’s fitting to honor firsts by hosting our second contest of the school year, a Haiku Contest. The prompt? Firsts.
Think back to your first day of middle school. The first time you met your best friend. The first time you realized ice cream is the best food ever. Your first time on the honor roll. The first time you rode a bike. Your first crush. The first time you knew you wanted to be an astronaut when you grow up!
Write a haiku about a first of yours. It can be funny or not, just make sure it follows the simple rules of a haiku, and that it’s school appropriate. Here’s an example:
My arm moved one way,
my body went another,
and then I heard snap.
(My first broken bone)
Submit your haiku by filling out this form by Friday, January 31st. You can submit more than one entry. The contest is open to both Canyon Vista students and staff. A guest panel will judge each haiku on the quality of the poem and how well it captures the “first.” The winners of the contest will receive a prize and their poetry will be published right here on Canyon Echoes during the first week of February.
All you need to do is haiku.
