Why Fast Food is Unhealthy

Salty soft french fries, juicy hamburgers, and fizzy Coca Cola. Just the sound of those words can provoke an image in your mind that makes your mouth water. Well, what seems delicious to your taste buds is actually quite hazardous for your body. What if we looked at fast food a different way? Greasy fries, 500 calorie burgers, and 35 grams of sugar. All these risks and side effects are hidden within the deceptive entrée.

Eating too much fast food can cause a wide variety of malfunctions in your body and threaten your health. Some serious side effects are those such as obesity and type 2 diabetes. It can also cause stroke and different types of cancers, which can induce numerous types of heart malfunctions and diseases. One effect leads to another, like a chain reaction. For example, if one is obese, they are more likely have stroke and heart problems. These are all very serious side effects, and are known to be life-threatening. 18% of deaths are from obesity alone.

When eating fast food, whether it be french fries or hamburgers, a lot of calories are gained. Not only do these calories cause one to acquire weight, they also provide no form of nutrients whatsoever. Once you consume so many calories, your body absorbs the fat and you start to have useless fat. On top of that, they tend to burn really slowly. You would have to run 5 miles just to burn off the calories from eating one Big Mac from McDonalds.

According to World Actuality, what may seem delicious to your eyes and stomach, is making your heart feel sick and unhealthy. Consuming extreme amounts of sugar and sodium, which is commonly found in fast food, causes your heart to run irregularly and sometimes may even cause malfunctions such as coronary artery disease (when the veins are blocked) and stroke. If your heart starts failing, other essential organs that you need to survive start shutting down as well. It all goes downhill from there, there is not a big chance that doctors can save you.

Not to mention the safety of your body is at risk from the ingredients in some of these foods. Since chain stores have so many customers, they cannot afford quality food. Sometimes, it’s not even real food. It’s also not uncommon for low quality food to contain pesticides and unnatural fertilizers. The amount of dangerous ingredients in a french fry is unbelievable; some include citric acid, unnatural beef flavor, 7 different types of oil, 4 different types of fats, and 4 types of sodium. The oil used to fry french fries are not changed to a new batch for days, sometime even up to a week! A small serving of about 20 french fries is already over 220 calories and the sodium amount is about 15% of your recommended daily intake. At times, fast foods will even have sulfur in them to keep or enhance the color, the same sulfur that is infamous for its stench.

So, remember that although fast food meals may be delicious, also take note of how many calories and the side effects you are letting your body into. Treat yourself to a fast food meal every once in a while, but keep in mind the consequences of eating too much.
