The Japanese poetry thrives,
In the rhythm of 5, 7, 5
3 lines it has,
Contains ancient pizzazz,
A haiku I can surely contrive.
-Ishan Deshpande, 6th grade
(My favorite type of poetry)
2nd Place
A loud howl pierced the night
I turn my head in great delight
Noble bodies eyes of blue
The wolf pack comes from out of view!
Then they melt back into night
–Joshua Kang, 6th grade
(My favorite mammal)
3rd Place
Me and my favorite book:
All curled up in my favorite nook.
Though I’ve read it many times through
And by now the plot is not one bit new,
I still can’t help but reopen it and take another look.
-Bailey Barlow, 8th Grade
(My favorite book)
Honorable Mention
He united the Mongul Tribes
And conquered all lands in his sights
His lineage goes down
To every city, every town
Genghis Khan was he, and none could match his might
-James Lemuel, 8th Grade

This girl is my kind,
She is a savior in my mind,
Katie, so smart and cool,
Who’s the funniest at this school,
Walking away without a chime
-Arundhati Subramanian, 6th Grade
(My favorite friend)
