Twitch streamers such as Ninja market these skins by playing in them. These people are professionals at the game. Many players idolize them and want to be like them. If Ninja is doing it we should too right? If you agree to that or not is your choice but that is what goes on in the minds of Fortnite players. Fortnite also runs sponsorships. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and S9 are being marketed using Fortnite. If you buy the phone you will get an exclusive skin in Fortnite. Many people are buying the phones for the skins. If Fortnite decides to release a skin only once that increases the skins rarity.

If they release that skin again then everybody will buy that skin. That is the case with the skull trooper skin. It was supposed to be released only once but it got released again and everybody is buying it.

In conclusion, Fortnite makes money by using in-game purchases, and very clever marketing.
