Fortnite is currently the most popular game in the world. If you do not know about  Fortnite you have been living under a rock. Nevertheless, I shall explain the game to you. It is a 100-player battle royale game where you land on a map and kill each other until the last player standing wins. The most important part of this, however, is that Fortnite is free to play.

If Fortnite is free to play, how does it make money? In this article, I shall answer this question. Fortnite is racking in about one million dollars per day. A free-to-play game is making more than some paid games. The way that Fortnite is making money is from in-game purchases.

In Fortnite there is a digital currency available called V-bucks. These V-bucks can be used to buy many cosmetic items such as skins, pets, backpacks, pickaxes, and more. The market for these skins is made from one thing, entertainment.

Twitch streamers such as Ninja market these skins by playing in them. These people are professionals at the game. Many players idolize them and want to be like them. If Ninja is doing it we should too right? If you agree to that or not is your choice but that is what goes on in the minds of Fortnite players. Fortnite also runs sponsorships. The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and S9 are being marketed using Fortnite. If you buy the phone you will get an exclusive skin in Fortnite. Many people are buying the phones for the skins. If Fortnite decides to release a skin only once that increases the skins rarity.

If they release that skin again then everybody will buy that skin. That is the case with the skull trooper skin. It was supposed to be released only once but it got released again and everybody is buying it.

In conclusion, Fortnite makes money by using in-game purchases, and very clever marketing.
