Mnet Asian Music Awards 2017

Mnet Asian Music Awards 2017

After about a year of waiting it’s finally time for the Mnet Asian Music Awards, aka the MAMAs! This year they are being held in Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Japan. They start on the 25th of November and end on the 1st of December(Yes, I know that I’m a tad bit late because it’s December 4th today, but it’s better late than never!). Some of the winners have already been announced, but most of the fans of the groups that were ‘nominees’ aren’t too happy with the results, and are asking for a reevaluation. But before we get into that, let’s talk about the winners last year!

Last year, the winners for the ‘Artist of the Year’ was BTS and they also won the Best Dance Performance for the male groups. Cheer Up by TWICE won the ‘Song of the Year’ award, and Whistle by BLACKPINK won the ‘Best Music Video’ award. Taemin from Shinee won the ‘Best Dance Performance – Solo’ award for his dance in the song Press Your Number. There were many more awards, but these were some of the awards where the winners were the same this year and last year. Now, let’s move on to this year’s results!

The winners that I have named above are the same, except that Seventeen received the award for the ‘Best Dance Performance – Male Group’ and BTS’s MV Spring Day won the award for the ‘Best Music Video’. This year, TWICE’s Signal won the ‘Song of the Year Award’. It has a pretty catchy tune. You should listen to both Signal and Cheer Up when you get the chance!

One other thing I thought that I’d put in, is that after their debut in 2012, NU’EST, a boy group of five members, had their very first win on October 19th earlier this year as the sub-unit NU’EST W. They’ve been working so hard, and have finally gotten what they deserved. They also won an award in the MAMAs for the ‘Discovery of the Year’.

One last thing is that many fans were angry about the results of the MAMAs. The group that gets the most votes is supposed to receive the award, but obviously, that didn’t happen. However, the artists have already taken the awards and it’s a bit too late now to change the results. And although fans are getting angry at the awards show for their mistake, I think that all of the artists worked hard! Congratulations to all of the winners!
