Movies Coming in 2019

2018 was a pretty good year for the entertainment industry. Movies like Black Panther, Incredibles 2, and Crazy Rich Asians made a lot of money at the box office. Now that we’re moving into 2019, there are many highly anticipated films on the radar. Here are some of the (family friendly, since this is a middle school news site) movies that you’re going to want to see this year.

1.The LEGO Movie 2: The Second Part

The first LEGO movie grossed over 450 million dollars, so naturally, they had to come out with a sequel. Coming to theatres in February, this movie will include the original main characters, as well as some new ones from space. Luckily, Chris Pratt didn’t bail on the sequel.

2. How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World

This will be the third and allegedly final How to Train Your Dragon movie. The first movie grossed a little over 200,000 dollars, and the second grossed a little under.  Also coming in February, This movie will give the dragon Toothless a love interest and lead the main characters to a ‘hidden dragon world’. The movie should be pretty similar to the first two in terms of mood and overall quality.

3. Dumbo (Live Action remake)

Coming in March, this movie will be similar but not the same as the original Dumbo movie. If you enjoy the classic story of the young, flying elephant, this is the movie for you.

4. Shazam!

Coming in April, this movie follows a sarcastic middle school boy who meets a creepy old superhero named Shazam and gains the ability to become a superhero himself. From the trailer, you can tell that this movie will have a lighthearted, comedic tone. It doesn’t take itself too seriously, which will certainly make it more enjoyable.

5. UglyDolls

This May, a movie about those strange-looking dolls that so many had as kids. The UglyDolls are perfectly happy being weird in Uglyville until they find themselves in a new place called the ‘Institute of Perfection’. This movie will include original songs with voice actors like Kelly Clarkson, Nick Jonas, and Pitbull. I’m not sure how good it will be for a more adult audience, but you can bring your younger siblings.

6. Pokemon Detective Pikachu

Also in May, you can find Ryan Reynolds voicing the most famous pokemon, Pikachu in this movie whose pitch was probably a joke. Imagine being in that meeting. ‘Alright, so here’s the idea. We do a movie about Pikachu… and he’s a DETECTIVE!’ ‘I’m listening…’

7. Aladdin (Live-Action Remake)

Yet another movie coming in May, this is the second of three live-action remakes to come out in 2019. Will Smith will be playing the genie, so if you’re a fan of Suicide Squad, make sure to get your ticket.

8. The Secret Life of Pets 2

As you may have noticed, a lot of the movies on this list are sequels, remakes, or spinoffs of characters and universes that already exist in some other way shape or form. This movie is no different. Coming in June, the main character, Max, is taken to the vet for the first time and learns, to his dismay, that the vet specializes in behavioral disorders.

9. Toy Story 4

Coming in June, a fourth part of the story we all know and love, this time featuring a spork wrapped in a pipe cleaner, with googly eyes glued on the back of the spoon. Toy Story 3 ended on a good note, so nobody really knows why Pixar thought it necessary to make another, but if it keeps up with previous standards this movie should be pretty enjoyable.

10. Spider-Man: Far From Home

Coming in July, the fact that this movie even exists is a spoiler that all those lost in Infinity War are likely to come back. Starring Tom Holland and Zendaya, this movie will be perfect for Marvel fans.

11. The Lion King (Live Action Remake)

The third and final live-action remake on this list is perhaps the most anticipated. This movie will star Donald Glover as Simba and the iconic Beyonce Knowles as Nala. In the preview, you can see that the animals look almost real, while still staying true to the original movie. There is even a direct quote pulled from the original movie featured at the beginning of the trailer. So, if you loved the animated version of Lion King, you’ll love the live action one just as much, if not more.

12. The Addams Family

Coming in October, a movie about the beloved Addams Family. Oh, and Finn Wolfhard is voice-acting in it.

13. You are my Friend

If you saw the recent documentary about Mr. Rogers’ Neighborhood and wanted more, this is the movie for you. This October, see Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers in the story of his life.

14. Frozen 2

You’re either dreading this or you’re too excited to express it. Coming in November, the long-awaited sequel to the movie featuring the iconic song ‘Let it Go’. Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, and Josh Gad are coming back, and every little girl under ten is totally here for it.

15. Star Wars IX

There’s nothing much to be said here. You know the drill, we’ve had these movies since the late seventies. Still, they aren’t any less exciting.
