Gecko Appreciation
Geckos
You’ve probably seen a gecko scurrying around you before and freaked out. While geckos might look weird at first, they’re actually harmless and even important to the environment. By eating pests, like mosquitos, and other bugs, they’re helping humans and plants alike. Geckos only bite when distressed. Even so, their bite doesn’t hurt or pierce the skin. Overall, they’re not a threat to anyone and are very interesting creatures. Here are a few fun facts about them because I really need to reach my word count.
Fun Facts
- Some geckos can fly. Ptychozoon, also known as parachute geckos, leap and glide from tree to tree by using webs attached to their body and limbs. Just imagine seeing a gecko flying towards you at a high speed.
- Geckos can be as small as 1.6 cm and reach up to 14 inches in length. That’s insane!
- Since geckos don’t have eyelids, they lick their eyes to keep them moist and clean instead.
- Geckos communicate with different clicks and chirps.
- Geckos are nocturnal creatures. If you ever keep one as a pet, you won’t need to buy a special UVB light.
- Geckos can detach and regenerate their tails to get away from predators. Don’t scream if you see a tail lying around. Whatever gecko left that behind most likely has a new one by now.

Since some people still don’t appreciate geckos and what they do, here’s a slideshow to showcase their cuteness.
