Two of a Kind

Being a twin can have its challenges: having to share the same clothes, getting called the wrong name, being compared to one another, and sometimes, having to share the same room. Being a twin also has its advantages: someone is always there for you, you can ask them to try on an outfit to see if it looks good, and you can pull pranks on your teachers or friends by switching places.

“Two is better than one,” according to 8th grader Lindsey M. “When I don’t have anyone to talk, to she’s there for me. Everyone says we are so hard to tell apart, but once people get to know us they find it easier, not just because they’ve been around us more, it’s because we act totally different.”

Her twin, Sidney M., also in 8th grade, said, “It gets really annoying when people call me Lindsey. I know we look alike but we have differences- every set of twins does. We get along pretty well but we argue a lot, which upsets our mom but what siblings don’t fight?” said Sidney.

On the other hand, 8th graders Kyle and Staley V., agreed that they get along very well. Kyle and Staley do the same sports so they often have to be team players. “Since we like a lot of the same things, it helps us better in sports and it brings us closer,” said Staley.

“A lot of people think that when twins cooperate well in sports or other activities that they can read each other’s minds but we can’t do that. I’m pretty sure no twin can,” remarked Kyle.

6th graders Brandon and Brooke A. are fraternal twins. Fraternal twins are twins that don’t look identical. Brandon and Brooke have some similarities though, they both have blonde hair and brown eyes and are also close in height. “We get along but we aren’t as close a pair as girl twins or boy twins,” said Brandon.

“He’s like the protective ‘older’ brother, even though I’m older than him,” exclaimed Brooke, who was born two minutes before Brandon.

“It’s sort of funny when people realize we are twins because they would have never of known. It’s just so funny watching their reactions,” replied Brandon.

Being a twin is somewhat of a privilege. I would know- my twin, Taylor O. is always there for me and always around when I need someone to talk to. Friends may come and go but your twin is always by your side.

The next time you think you’re seeing double in the hallways, you just might be. There are approximately 20 sets of twins at Canyon Vista.
