It must be difficult for a Language Arts teacher to pick a favorite quote, but Mrs. Cerezo had no hesitation when choosing one by Elizabeth Edwards. “She stood in the storm, and when the wind did not blow her away, she adjusted her sails. I love how powerful the quote is and how much strength it shows,” Mrs. Cerezo recited. The quote relates to an important member of her family. ”My grandma is a true inspiration. Although she had a very rough life, she always responded to it in a positive way.”

Her grandma may be the most influential person to Mrs. Cerezo, but the rest of her family plays an important role in her life too. Mrs. Cerezo is married and has three kids; a son and two daughters. Her son, age 11, has a passion for football and has been playing the sport since he was in kindergarten. Her 7-year-old daugher is also very athletic and can easily run five miles. Mrs. Cerezo’s older daughter is currently in studying to be a professional makeup artist.

Mrs. Cerezo and her family didn’t always reside in Texas. She was a waitress for eight years at various restaurants in California and Arizona while attending college. After having her first child, Mrs. Cerezo knew teaching was her calling. However, if she could, her dream job was to craft all day long like Martha Stewart. Mrs. Cerezo is also an avid runner, she even participated in the Las Vegas Half Marathon.

Mrs. Cerezo first taught in California and Nevada. She then moved to Austin to continue her teaching career and scheduled an interview at Canyon Vista. Now, she is a seventh grade Language Arts teacher, teaching students that she loves to work with. She has been teaching for 14 years now, four of which were spent with the mustangs here at Canyon Vista. Her favorite way of teaching is doing hands-on activities, and she likes to make use of videos in her class and introduce fun books to read.

Mrs. Cerezo enjoys working with all her students and she is looking forward to teaching and helping Canyon Vista students through another exciting year.
