The final STAAR tests, also known as the State of Texas Academic Assessment of Readiness, have finally arrived. The 7th graders have been through the Writing STAAR, and 8th grade has already taken the Reading STAAR. However, we can’t relax just yet. On Monday, April 20th, 8th graders will endure the Math STAAR. The following day on the 21st,  6th and 7th graders will be taking the Math STAAR while 8th graders are going to take the Social Studies. 6th and 7th graders will then go through the Reading STAAR, and 8th grade will be taking the Science STAAR on April 22nd.

Listed below are some helpful tips to pass with flying colors.

  • Since we have to go to school early in the morning, go to bed at a decent time. This way, you will not be tired while taking the STAAR. Going to bed around 8:00 to 9:00 PM is recommended but not necessary.
  • When you wake up in the morning, eat a healthy breakfast! Pancakes with huge dollops of syrup is a big no-no. Instead, eat eggs, toast, or something with protein to keep you awake and filled with energy. Don’t eat anything sugary, as it can make you hyper and eventually tired.
  • When you get to school, make sure you bring and have everything you need, such as lunch money, pencils, etc. Also be sure to get everything you will need for the test because you will not be permitted to go back to your locker.
  • STAAR is timed, so remember to pace yourself.
  • Don’t understand a question? No problem, just skip it and come back to it later.
  • And of course, do the best that you possibly can!

Good luck on STAAR Mustangs, and be sure to follow all of these tips to ensure a successful testing experience!
